Guidelines
CHEF specifically aims to bring together Christian families from across the nations to enable them to share the blessings of one another's homes. The scheme relies entirely on the trust that there should be between believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. Here are some guidelines for arranging an exchange.
- Read the lists thoroughly before considering an exchange.
- Be honest with yourselves before entering into an agreement. The scheme works entirely on goodwill and once an exchange has been agreed it should be honoured.
- Be realistic in your expectations. An exchange must benefit both parties.
- The best method of approach is by telephone or e-mail. If you are approached by phone and cannot give an immediate decision, then agree to ring back by a definite date and remember to do so. If your final answer is "no" then please say so.
- Collect as much tourist information as possible about your own area and leave it behind.
- Be clear about anything you do not wish to be used or disturbed at all during your exchange eg computer, hi-fi and gadgets! Remember to agree about the provision of bed linen.
- Arrange to leave a list of emergency phone numbers eg doctor, dentist, neighbour, friend.
- Not everyone likes pets. Be sure that both sides know exactly what to expect if pets are part of your family.
- Never smoke in your exchange home.
- Put away any fragile or valuable items and leave some storage space for your visitors' clothes, food etc.
- Remember that no money should change hands except for phone calls, milk and agreed expenses -- never for any kind of rent.
- The address lists are private and confidential and should not be disclosed to any third parties.
